Ongoing resources and funding are critical to sustain efforts as the search for Amy enters its second month. In addition to increasing the reward to $25,000, critical and costly activities include engaging experienced private investigators, expanding search operations with dogs and drones, strengthening communications to keep Amy’s story visible, and supporting volunteer efforts and canvassing.
Amy’s friends have created a GoFundMeto help her family cover the costs of continuing the search. Any support is greatly appreciated. Bring Amy Home
It has been weeks since Amy Hillyard went missing, and the mystery of where she might be deepens each day. Friends and loved ones have been searching and are growing more desperate for information that will help to bring Amy home. There is now a $25,000 REWARD being offered in hopes that someone, somewhere, has seen Amy and can provide Oakland Police with information that leads to her safe return (see contact information below).
Amy was last seen on Wednesday, March 25, sometime after 2:00 pm in the vicinity of the 500 block of Radnor Road in Oakland, CA. Amy is 5’4”, approximately 120 pounds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, light-colored jeans, and white sneakers with black stripes. She is considered at risk due to a medical condition.
Latest Update
On Monday evening, May 25, dozens of people wearing yellow ribbons came together to light candles and show support for the families and friends whose loved ones are missing. It was a vigil in honor of Missing Persons Awareness Month, both to raise awareness and give hope through the solidarity of community. The vigil in Mandana Plaza Park in Oakland was heavily covered by local television media (links to stories below) and featured comments by Amy’s husband Chris and close friends.
Chris Hillyard shared the family’s pain and his gratitude to all those who continue to volunteer time to search for Amy: “It’s hard to put into words what these last two months have felt like since Amy went missing. Time keeps moving forward, but for so many of us, it also feels like time has stood still. Every morning begins with the same hope, and every night ends with the same unanswered questions. The uncertainty has been one of the hardest parts — not knowing where she is, not knowing what happened, and not being able to bring her home and hold her in my arms.”
Amy’s friend Nova Goldberg put Amy’s story in the larger context of the City of Oakland, where 1,500 people go missing each year: “We have all missed her every single day for the past 60 days. It’s been 60 days of confusion, heartbreak, frustration and hope. 60 days of loving her and just wanting her home. I also am speaking today to bring awareness to the many families who are enduring this excruciating experience of living with a missing loved one. May is Missing Persons Awareness Month and there are sadly too many communities who are suffering because a loved one is missing. There is a specific pain we all feel to live in the unknown for so long and to desperately want answers. Thank you all for coming today as I have discovered it is better to be together than to be alone with this pain.”
Amy’s friend, Monica Kaldani, who has been instrumental in organizing hundreds of volunteers in the search for Amy, also expressed gratitude to the media for continuing to cover stories about those who have gone missing and to the broader community for continuing to show up: “Seeing this many people come together for Amy Hillyard, and for every missing person and family carrying the pain of not knowing, is deeply moving. Your presence matters. It tells these families: you are not alone, your loved one is not forgotten, and this community stands with you. May is Missing Persons Awareness Month, but for families of the missing, this is not something they think about for just one month — it is every single day. Every phone call brings hope. Every unanswered message brings heartbreak. Every passing day without answers can feel unbearable. Public awareness creates leads. Sharing a story can make a difference. Sometimes one person remembering a face, a car, a conversation, or a location can change everything. And to the volunteers, advocates, friends, and community members — thank you. Thank you for searching, sharing flyers, organizing vigils, checking in on families, and refusing to let these names disappear. The support you give means more than you probably realize.”
The vigil was held on the two month-anniversary of Amy’s disappearance. Though the police department and family have continued to follow up on every lead, there has been no solid evidence as of yet of Amy’s whereabouts. Her husband Chris holds onto hope: “There are moments of hope, moments of fear, moments of exhaustion, and moments when grief feels overwhelming. But even through all of that, we continue holding on. We continue searching. We continue believing that Amy matters, that all missing persons matter, that their stories matter, and that they deserve to be found.”
